Healing

João
Two years ago Social Welfare brought little João to come and live with us. João was abandoned by his mother and left naked and locked away in their small home. The community heard a child crying from the home and eventually they decided to broke down the door of the house. They found João naked and alone inside the house. They did not know for how long he was left alone and when his mother decided to leave with his brothers and sisters leaving him alone, without the safety and love of a family.

He was extremely traumatized, always crying, on his own and he never smiled. This went on for almost two years we tried so many things to help him, to make him feel loved and nurtured.

Last week, he came upstairs and gave me a hug and smiled.  Yesterday he laughed as he was sitting in my kitchen playing a game and today he laughed out loud as I tickled him.

We praise God for the healing He has done in João.  We thank God for our educators who patiently loved him. We thank God for all the visitors who came and gave special attention and love to him; by coming, you have allowed God to love through you and heal the heart of João. There are so many more like João that need someone to come and sit and hold them, to love them unconditionally.
